Organic Hair Color - Indigo - Cultivator's

Use in combination with henna and other herbs to create your own hair dye recipe. Mix henna and indigo in a 1:1 ratio for a brownish colour and increase the indigo ratio for a darker colour.

Recipes with indigo

For brown hair - henna + indigo in one step:

Prepare a henna paste and let it sit for 2-12 hours. When ready, in a separate container, mix indigo with lukewarm water, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, no more, so you don't lose any of its color. Add the finished indigo to the henna mixture and mix well; you can add a little water to achieve the consistency of yogurt. Apply to dry or damp hair, completely covering the hair from root to tip. Wrap in plastic wrap and towel and leave on hair 2-6 hours. Wash out with shampoo or conditioner only.

For black or very dark brown hair - two steps:

Apply henna to your hair first, prepared in the usual way - for a rich red base. Wait a few hours, wash and dry your hair gently. Mix the indigo with warm water, and for a more intense result, add 1 tsp of table salt per 100g of indigo powder - for an even darker colour. Apply the mixture immediately to dry or damp, freshly curled hair, covering it evenly along the entire length. It's easiest to start at the back, gradually dividing the hair into sections (Use old towels and gloves!). Wrap hair well and leave for 1-2 hours; wash out with water or shampoo only.

For lighter hair: dilute with cassia / colourless henna: 1 tsp henna + 1 tsp indigo + 1 tsp amla + 50-100 g cassia

You can also use indigo to tone and reduce red hues from henna and darken very slightly: mix 1-2 tsp indigo with lukewarm water, add a sufficient amount of hair conditioner, apply evenly to hair and wash out after 20-30 minutes.
